Color of the Week... Smoke

Smoke is a great neutral... I love mixing warm and cool together in prints as well as in quilts. You just can't have equal parts or they compete with each other. This is one of my favorite Blueprint fabrics because I have always loved Queen Anne's Lace. When I was young my Grandma Clara and I would go out and pick wild flowers to put in a flower press to dry and then make cards. The delicate Queen Anne's Lace was perfect for flower pressing. Such a happy childhood memory!

What is your favorite neutral?

Color of the Week.... ORANGE

Orange...(Kona Cotton Orange to be exact)
Apricot, Cantaloupe, Carrot, Peach, Tangerine.... YUMMY! Not just a fabulous color...
I think that designing with Orange can be a challenge. As an accent or "poison" color Orange can make or break a good design.  My mom is an amazing teacher. One of the concepts of color that she teaches her students is to have a color in your quilt that is a poison, just a little to make the other colors sing! I think that orange can be one of those colors....

I used orange in Generous to make the other colors sing...and because I like orange!!!

Color of the Week.... Sunkissed

Sunkissed.....reminds me of flowers....so many beautiful yellow flowers. The Sunflower is one of my all time favorite flowers...I love to grow them in my yard and watch my girls pick the seeds and re-plant them. To see a new sunflower grow. Yellow is so happy, it can brighten your day, make you smile. Its no wonder more people are happy when the sun is out.

What can I say as a black and white photographer I love this color... and there is something about gray that is calming and peaceful. Iron is a cool blueish gray that reminds me of the keys in an old typewriter.
Enjoy!

Last week I accidently did a bad link to my new blog....
Here is a good link!

Color of the Week

 White

(Kona Solid White)

I love, love, love white.....cool white, warm white, almost white, gray white, cream white....ALL white. One of my favorite quilts I have ever made is Trinity which uses my Wish collection and a variety of whites in the background....cottons and linens which gives a subtle color and textural change to using just a solid white.

Blueprint Basics

I love color….

When I set out to create Blueprint Basics I made a color wheel of sorts. This was the beginning of separating the colors into seasons, Spring, Summer, Autumn and Winter. The designs came next. The designs in Blueprint Basics started with my sketchbook, simple drawings of inspiration. I planned the designs to mix throughout the seasons.

My swatches and strike-offs covered a section of my inspirational wall for a year. The beginning of Blueprint was also the beginning of The Color of the Week idea…. One night when I couldn’t sleep, I was so excited to create a line of basics, I started thinking about how much I photograph color. Why not connect the two and create an inspirational blog once a week for an entire year. A year of color….mixed with inspirational photography, quilts and projects.

I am so very lucky to be working with Robert Kaufman and when I presented my idea they were excited and wanted to see what I could do with the project. Thanks to them my little idea is now a reality.

Let me introduce you to Spring Blueprint Basics…..
